a delicious treat,
quite so tasty,
which should you eat?
each on its own a beautiful work of art,
yet different fillings at the heart,
I could be bitter, I could be sour,
or I could be sweet just like a flower,
you kissed the gist of my butter-cream rose,
a pretty cake decorated in blue bows,
held highly in your praise, yet am only I,
merely a possession in your eyes?
you poor chooser of the confectionery,
I must warn you to be wary,
you should have known from the start,
the flavour I have in my heart,
once you tire of the same design,
should you favour pink ribbons instead of mine,
something you had; a pretty blue,
you should know you can't have your cake and eat it too,
please taste my feelings and don't just flatter,
don't expect my heart on a silver platter.
